The moon and space

About space
The Milky Way has nine planets in it.
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, (Pluto),( My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas.)

Pluto
The dwarf planet, Pluto, was found by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930.
An eleven year old girl had named the dwarf planet Pluto.
Astronomers had discovered Pluto as a dwarf planet.
Pluto is made of rock and ice.

The moon
The moon was formed by an asteroid hit the Earth and the piece that got hit by the asteroid floated up into space and got stuck next by the Earth.
Weather on the moon is nothing. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins were the first people to travel to the moon.

Eclipses
There are two different kinds of eclipses, lunar and solar. Lunar means moon and solar means sun. Solar eclipses happen in the day, and Lunar eclipses happen at night.

Life Cycles!!!
The Butterfly Life Cycle
butterfly

The way caterpillars turn into a butterflies are the bugs life cycles.
First the butterflies lay there eggs. Then the caterpillars go through five stages, eggs, larva, cocoon, and a butterfly.

The Salmon Life Cycle
Salmon go through a life cycle just like butterflies and other animals.
The salmon go through the life cycle.

Biomes!
Biomes are all around the whole Earth. There are alot of different kinds of biomes
the tundra, wetland, grasslands, and desserts.

Energy
Energy is something that everybody uses. Their are lots of different kinds of energy:

Kinetic Energy
Kinetic Energy is when something is moving. For an example your on the swing. You are using kinetic energy to push you on the swing.

Potential Energy

Potential energy is like kinetic energy but it isn't. This energy means you stay still.

Heat Energy
Heat energy is energy that has heat in it. An example of heat energy is a pot of boiling hot water. The water in the pot is boiling and the gas makes the water boil.

Sound Energy

Sound energy mostly travels through waves. You can here the sound because the sound travels into your ears and it wiggles your bones.

Light Energy Light energy is energy that uses solar energy. The word solar is a different way of saying sun. Two kinds of light energy

Rocks & Minerals
There are three different kinds of rocks, Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary.

Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary rock are formed when layers of sediment are pressed together.
Different kinds of sedimentary rocks are Limestone, Shale, Sandstone, Dolomite, and Conglomerate.

Igneous Rocks

Igneous rocks are by made lava.
This kind of rock is formed when lava cools and hardens.
Gabbro, Basalt, Granite, Serpentinte, and Obisdian are different kinds of Igneous rocks.

Metamorphic Rocks
Slate, Marble, Phyllite, Gneiss, and Schist are Metamorphic rocks.
These rocks are made of heat and pressure from the Mantle.

Cave of the Mounds

For our Third Grade end of the year field trip we went to the Cave of the Mounds.
We went their for our Rocks and Minerals science unit.

Caves
Sometimes some caves are found when they aren't suppose to.
One cave that was discovered was Cave of the mounds.

Zones of caves
Their are different zones of a cave.

Twilight zone
In the Twilight zone, you can see some light in.
Some plants can grow in this zone.
